Havana, Aug 17 (RHC) Experts from seven countries will attend the 50th Congress of the Cuban Association of Sugar Technicians (ATAC) to take place September 5 to 7, in Havana.
Representatives of organizations dealing with technological aspects of the sugar-processing sector from Germany, Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Mexico, Venezuela and Uruguay have already confirmed their attendance at the forum, according to Eduardo Lamadrid, president of the Cuban association.
The debates will focus on crucial aspects, such as sugarcane seeds and varieties, watering and drainage systems, industrial maintenance and technologies, the use of biomass as fuel, animal feed, among others.
Lamadrid said that the forum aims at supporting the sugar cane
agriculture and industry to be more efficient, sustainable,
competitive and diversified.
The 2011-2012 sugar cane harvest in Cuba reported a 16 percent growth over the previous year, but its results were still modest, according to an article published in the Granma newspaper about the annual evaluation meeting of the Sugar Entrepreneurial Group. This entity replaced the former Sugar Ministry in late 2011.
