Fifty-one Thousand Neighborhood Assemblies to Nominate Candidates for Upcoming Elections in Cuba
Havana, August 17 (RHC)-- Cuba’s National Election Commission (CEN) convenes 8.5 million voters for the upcoming General Elections organized by the Council of State. A total of 51,000 assemblies will be held at the neighbourhood level across the island to nominate candidates for the elections.
Commission spokesman Julio Torres said the number of voters matches the latest poll and is in accordance with the national demographic ratings of a little more than 11 million people.
Torres told Prensa Latina news agency that the CEN is publishing the final list of voters on September 22nd and will complete the review within the first ten days of October to start the elections on October 21st.
Alina Balseiro, president of the CEN, said the institution already picked the juries and the remaining staff for the voting offices and registration tables, plus the consultants at national, provincial, municipal and neighborhood levels -- 14,500 circumscriptions with 50,900 areas -- presently undergoing training to manage the logistics.
