Cooperatives in Cuba Could Expand to Transport and Services
Havana, July 9 (ACN) The development of the cooperatives as management entities is part of the ongoing update of the Cuban economic model and constitutes a world alternative to the current neo-liberal system, said the president of the Cuban Cooperatives Society Alberto Rivera, in statements to Trabajadores newspaper.
Rivera said that in the Cuban case, these cooperatives are enterprises joining the socialist planning model and they contribute to economic, productive and social development of the community where they are based, and of society in general.
“We want to set up cooperatives in the sectors of services, transport, gastronomy and others. The country is now creating the legal framework to this objective, while our experience with cooperative farms has been the basis to expand this movement.”
Training is very important to boost the initiative and improve relations between the state and the cooperatives, Rivera said. He noted that a system of schools with the National Association of Small Farmers is taking actions aimed at the appropriate training of human resources to boost the new non-state property modality.
