Syria Prevents Terrorist Infiltration Attempts

Damascus, February 24 (RHC)-- Syrian security forces have thwarted new attempts to infiltrate armed groups from Turkey through the border area near the town of al-Hassanieh Nassereh.

Quoting authorities from the northwestern province, SANA news agency reported that Syrian troops clashed with armed groups in the area and killed or wounded a number of terrorists trying to cross the border.

There were also reports that in the northern Syrian city of Aleppo, some 340 kilometers from Damascus, border guards killed several terrorists were attempting to infiltrate into the country from Turkey.

In other news, the Jordan-based Al-Bawaba news website reports that over 10,000 Libyans are being trained in a remote area in Jordan before being sent off to Syria to fight alongside the opposition.  The site also says Saudi Arabia and Qatar were paying the anti-Gaddafi mercenaries $1,000 U.S. dollars a month to take up arms against Syrian President Bashar al-Assad.

Meanwhile, several Iranian news sources report that some 50 Turkish officers detained in Syria admitted to being trained by Israeli Special Forces to help destabilize the Syrian regime.
