Colombia: Indigenous People of the Americas Defend Their Rights
Cartagenade Indias, April 11 (PL-RHC) -- More than 150 representatives of various indigenous peoples from the Americas gathered Wednesday in the Colombian city of Cartagena to defend their rights and promote dialogue with their States.
Gathered for the Social Forum held amid the Sixth Summit of the Americas, the indigenous people also plan to talk about various topics, including the five points to be discussed at the meeting of heads of State.
Participants will also analyze the impact of these meetings for the communities of the continent, and make their own proposals to heads of state and government.
Spiritual leaders from indigenous groups of Colombia led a ritual which marked the beginning of the Social Forum, which was also attended by Secretary General of the Organization of American States, José Miguel Insulza; and Colombian Foreign Minister Maria Angela Holguín.
