Damascus blast kills nine, injures dozens
Damascus, April 27, (RHC), -- A bomb exploded on Friday near a mosque in the Syrian capital, Damascus, leaving at least nine people dead and dozens of others injured, official sources reported.
According to Syria’s official SANA news agency, the blast occurred in the central neighborhood of al-Midan, near a mosque and school, on Friday, killing several civilians and security forces nearby.
The government blamed the blast on terrorist groups of the opposition.
This is the latest of a series of attacks in Damascus, which has seen a surge in violence despite the UN-brokered ceasefire, part of the peace plan proposed by UN-Arab League envoy Kofi Annan.
Since the beginning of unrest in Syria last year, scores of people, mostly security forces, have been killed in terrorist bomb attacks. /PRESSTV
