Russia accuses armed opposition groups of trying to ruin peace plan
Moscow, May 3, (RHC), -- The Russian government has blamed Syrian armed groups for the ongoing violence in the country, warning of a large-scale campaign to cause Kofi Annan’s peace plan to fail.
Russian Foreign Ministry on Wednesday accused armed groups fighting against the Damascus government of attempting to ruin Annan’s plan in order to pave the way for foreign military intervention in the country.
Russia also urged the international community not to let Annan's plan fail.
The remarks came as terrorist groups operating in Syria have stepped up attacks on government and civilian targets, which have left dozens of people dead and great material damage.
Syria has been experiencing unrest since March 2011, when anti-government protests erupted in several cities across the Arab nation. Thousands have been killed in the turmoil, with the Assad administration blaming the violence on terrorists. /PRESSTV
