Palestinians and Jewish settlers Clash in West Bank
Ramallah, May 19 (Xinhua-RHC) Palestinian residents of a village south of the West bank city Nablus clashed on Saturday with dozens of Jewish settlers after the latter attacked the villagers with stones, witnesses and security sources said.
Clashes broke out following the settlers' attack. Medical sources reported that a young man was shot by armed settlers, and another young man was injured when a stone hit him in the face. The witnesses said an Israeli army force was called to the scene and is trying to protect the settlers and evacuate them from the area.
Clashes also broke out Saturday between young men of Iraq Burin Village, south of Nablus, and Israeli soldiers. The soldiers fired rubber bullets and tear gas canisters at the young men who threw stones at the soldiers. Witnesses said several young men were hurt after inhaling tear gas.
The settlement issue was a main reason behind the stalled peace talks between Israel and the Palestinians. The Palestinians want Israel to halt all settlement activities before resuming any talks between the two sides.
