Ecuadorian President to Attend OAS Meeting in Bolivia

Quito, June 2 (RHC) -- Ecuadorian President Rafael Correa will attend the 42nd General Assembly of the Organization of American States (OAS) to be held in the Bolivian department of Cochabamba from June 3 through 5.

A statement issued by the Ecuadorian Foreign Ministry confirmed Correa’s acceptance of the invitation sent by his Bolivian counterpart, Evo Morales, to participate in the plenary session of that body, which will hold discussions addressing the Malvinas Islands conflict, food security, and Bolivia’s access to the sea, among other topics.

The text also said that during the OAS General Assembly, the government of Quito will clarify the country’s foreign policy in relation to the Inter-American System of Human Rights, a body attached to that agency, which has been criticized by several Latin American countries for its partiality towards unilateral interests.

During his stay in Bolivia, the Ecuadorian head of State will also attend a parallel Social Summit, to discuss regional integration and participatory democracy in Latin America. The Social Summit in Bolivia will be attended by representatives from various national and international organizations in the continent.
