Ecuador Denounces Washington’s Financing of Anti-ALBA Groups
Quito, June 20 (RHC) — The editor in chief of the Ecuadorian daily El Telégrafo, Orlando Perez, described as ‘politically worrying’ funds provided by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) to opposition groups in the member states of the Bolivarian Alliance for the Peoples of Our Americas (ALBA).
In statements to the digital site www.ecuadorinmediato.com, Perez blasted Washington’s policy of interference in the internal affairs of ALBA member countries and pointed to millions of dollars provided by USAID to fund the subversive activities of organizations like Faro, Fundamedios, Esquel and others.
The Ecuadorian intellectual stressed that those groups have plans to carry out a series of workshops financed by USAID to presumably train journalists, who would later work for media outlets that serve foreign interests, in direct opposition to the countries’ constitutionally elected governments.
