Syrian Army Launches Anti-Opposition Operation in Aleppo
Damascus, July 28 (Xinhua-RHC) -- Syrian security forces clashed with an armed group at al-Furqan district in the northern province of Aleppo, killing two armed men and rounding up three others, state-run news agency SANA reported.
The SANA report said that armed forces ambushed a terrorist group at Suleiman al-Halabi district in Aleppo on Saturday, killing all the terrorists and seizing their weapons. It added that armed forces chased another terrorist group at al-Anssari district in Aleppo and inflicted heavy losses upon the terrorists, seizing their weapons and vehicle.
At the Salma town in Latakia, the state news agency said that security forces chased the remnants of armed groups and killed and wounded several terrorists.
On the opposition side, the Britain-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said two rebel fighters were killed during the clashes in Salaheddine area in Aleppo, claiming that “no less than 10 soldiers were killed in the neighbourhood.” The Observatory said the leader of a rebel battalion was killed during clashes in the al-Sheikh Khudur neighbourhood.
In Homs province, the Observatory said the neighbourhoods of Khaldiya, al-Qarabees and Jourat al-Shayyah have been bombarded by Syrian forces for over an hour.
Clashes in Aleppo started a week ago after rebels announced they were starting the battle to liberate Aleppo. Also, the central Homs province has emerged as the main battleground and stronghold for insurgent groups.
