Syrian Army Forces Inflict Heavy Casualties on Armed Gangs in Aleppo
Damascus, August 10 (RHC)-- Syrian government forces have ousted armed terrorists from a key district in the city of Aleppo after several days of clashes. The rebels say they were forced to pull out of the area of Salaheddin after coming under heavy fire.
According to the Syrian news agency SANA, many areas of Aleppo are returning to normal, but there is still sporadic fighting in areas of Masaken Hananou and Tal Rifaat. Clashes also continue in rural areas of the province bordering Turkey, where mercenaries from Libya, Yemen and Afghanistan enter into Syria.
In other news, there are widespread reports the United Nations has agreed on veteran Algerian diplomat Lakhdar Brahimi to replace outgoing Syria envoy Kofi Annan when he steps down at the end of the month.
Annan announced his departure last week after months of fighting that threatened his multi-step peace plan.
