Mapuche Group Calls for UN Active Role against Violence against Indigenous Children
Havana, August 10 (RHC) -- The Mapuche Territorial Alliance in Santiago de Chile urged the United Nations to establish a working group to address the situation of violence against children of this ethnic group, on the occasion of the International Day of Indigenous Peoples.
The message was addressed to the UN High Commissioner and the Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC), which is based in the Chilean capital.
In a letter addressed to the UN body, the Mapuche Alliance mentions the peaceful takeover of the headquarters of the United Nations International Children’s Emergency Fund (UNICEF) by women of this indigenous group over the past two weeks.
