Venezuelan President Appreciates Solidarity Message Sent by Fidel Castro
Caracas, August 29 (RHC) -- Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez said that of all the messages of support he received after the tragedy at the Amuay refinery, he was particularly struck by one sent by leader of the Cuban Revolution, Fidel Castro.
In a note circulated by the local media on Wednesday, Chavez thanked the Caribbean leader’s concern for the events that occurred last Saturday at the Paraguaná Refinery Complex; and he reiterated, as stated by Fidel in the letter, that it is not possible to express the pain felt in such situations.
The Venezuelan president recalled he has received messages of support from leaders around the world, including the presidents of Cuba, Raul Castro; of Russia, Vladimir Putin; of Colombia, Juan Manuel Santos; and of Argentina, Cristina Fernández.
The explosion at the Amuay refinery, considered one of the worst industrial disasters in Venezuela’s history, left 48 people dead and dozens injured, and leveled 209 nearby homes and 11 businesses.
