Cuban Society Celebrates Women’s Organization Anniversary

Havana, August 22 (RHC) - On Friday, Cuban civil organizations congratulated the Federation of Cuban Women (FMC) on the occasion of its 49th anniversary on August 23.

A message from the Committees for the Defense of the Revolution's Board published Friday on Granma newspaper exulted the contribution made by women to the Revolution's strength and progress.

At present, women make up two third of Cuba's technical force, in art, politics, sciences, services, and defense.

The publication recalled the example of its founder and former President Vilma Espin, deceased in 2007, and her struggle for women's emancipation.

CTC National Secretariat member Amarilys Perez stressed women's participation in works related to food production, defense, and scientific research.

The FMC was created on August 23, 1960 and has a current membership of over four million women over the age of 14.
