Site of the Cuban Artists and Writers Association Declared National Monument

Havana, August 22 (RHC) - The site of the National Cuban Writers and Artists Association (UNEAC) in Havana was declared on Friday a National Monument, on the eve of the association’s 48th anniversary.

The organization, resulting from the First Congress of Cuban Writers and Artists, presided over by National Poet Nicolas Guillen, has resided in the former residence of banker Juan Gelats, who facing with bankruptcy committed suicide in December 1959. The house, in located in El Vedado neighborhood in Havana
