Las Huellas de España Festival dedicated to Alicia Alonso on her 100th birthday anniversary

Havana, April 21 (RHC)—The 29th edition of La Huella de España Festival will be held April 22-25 on digital platforms, due to the epidemiological situation generated by the Covid-19 pandemic.

This meeting of art and friendship, which brings together the peoples of Cuba and Spain, will be dedicated this time to prima ballerina assoluta Alicia Alonso on her 100th birthday anniversary.

Organized by National Ballet of Cuba (BNC), Ministry of Culture of Cuba, Spanish Embassy and Cuban Federation of Spanish Societies, the official poster of the event shows the legendary Cuban dancer and equally prestigious Spanish dancer Antonio Gades dancing the emblematic piece Ad Libitum, choreographed specifically for them by Alberto Méndez with music by Sergio Vitier.

Organizers said that highlights of the event will be broadcast also on national television.

The La Huella de España Festival was first held in the late 1980s. The cultural project was initially conceived by Alicia Alonso herself and the then Consul General of Spain in Cuba, Don Juan José Santos Aguado.

Practically all the arts are represented at the Festival: dance, music, song, visual arts, literature, theatre and cinema. Every year, the Festival showcases not only the Spanish roots present in Cuban culture, but also the cultural life and customs of Spain’s autonomous regions and communities.
