Concerts on Cuban television and social networks celebrate Cuban Son Day

May 8 is Cuban Son Day

Havana, May 4 (RHC)-- As part of the campaign launched by the Cuban Music Institute on occasion of the first celebration this year of May 8th --Cuban Son Day—at 4:30 pm (Cuban time) every day Canal Clave of Cuban television broadcasts concerts by contemporary exponents of the music genre.

With the hashtags #CubanSonDay, #EstamosContigo, #MusicosPorCuba, the concerts are streamed also on a network of more than 100 Facebook pages attached to the Cuban Ministry of Culture and the Cuban Music Institute.

Monday’s concert featured several popular ensembles, among them Aragón Orchestra, Azucar Negra, Compay Segundo group, Habaneras con Tumbao and Pupi y los que son son.

Also, on Monday, the traditional music ensemble Ecos del Tivolí presented their album ‘Juramento, Antología Matamorina,’ –the group’s seventh musical production, which is dedicated to Miguel Matamoros –considered one of the greatest exponents of son music. It was in Matamoros’ honor that May 8th was declared Cuban Son Day for he was born on May 8th, 1894.

With Bis Music label, ‘Juramento, Antología Matamorina’ includes collaborations of Cuban singer Mayito Rivera and Puerto Rican musicians Gilberto Santa Rosa, Andy Montañez and Danny Rivera.

The album, nominated this year to the top prize of the Cuban music industry –the Cubadisco Awards— is now available on social networks and digital platforms.
