Havana, May 8 (RHC)-- Cuban saxophonist Carlos Miyares & The Cuban Quintet have been nominated to this year’s top prize of the Cuban music industry –Cubadisco Awards—for their latest album entitled ‘Toma Uno’.

Under the label of the Cuban Record and Musical Editions Company EGREM, the album, in CD-DVD format, includes six tunes, performed by talented exponents of Cuba’s contemporary jazz scene.

In the CD-DVD album, The Cuban Quintet offers lovers of Afro-Cuban jazz breathtaking performances of tunes like “A lot of miles”, by Tony Rodríguez, “Boisdale”, by Carlos Miyares, “Caserío”, by Miguel Zenon, “Tres palabras”, by Osvaldo Farrés, “Footprints”, by Wayne Shorter, and “Blues for Charlie”, by Bob Reynolds.

About ‘Toma Uno’, maestro Chucho Valdés wrote: ‘Carlos Miyares belongs to a new generation of Cuban jazz musicians, who are creating a new, very personal sound. He contributes his personal, unique sound. His passion and improvisation skills know no limits. He is also a very original composer and a great instrumentalist.

The 24th edition of Cubadisco Awards will be held May 15th through the 23rd on digital platforms and on Cuban radio and television due to the epidemiological situation generated by the Covid-19 pandemic. Spain is the country of honor at this year’s event.
