Cuba's Vocal Universo

Havana, June 2 (RHC)-- Cuba’s Vocal Universo choir won first prize of the 3rd International Festival and Contest ‘The Feast of the Choir’, held in Balti, Moldova.

Directed by maestra Jacqueline Ramírez, this is the second time that Vocal Universo participates in the international choral music festival and contest. In the previous edition, held in 2020, the Cuban choir won two prizes for best vocal ensemble and best virtual performance.

Cuba was represented at the prestigious festival by three other choirs: Vocal Leo, which was awarded the jury’s Gran Prix, as well as Vocale Sine Nomine, and Vocal Divas.

Earlier this year, Vocal Universo participated in other non-competitive events like the 9th Choral Festival of Preveza, Greece, the 15th “A Tempo con Caturla” Chamber Music Festival in Santa Clara, Cuba) and the Ybor Art Festival in Tampa, the United States.

In 2020, Vocal Universo participated in a total of 17 choral events in countries like Argentina, Peru, Colombia, Chile, India, Greece, Brazil, Mexico, Italy and Spain.

They won two prizes at Christmas Inside Festival in Rome for best Vocal ensemble and best virtual presentation and third prize at the UNIVERSONG Festival in the Canary Islands.

Maestra Jacqueline Ramírez said that as soon as the epidemiological situation allows, Vocal Universo will give a series of concerts, including here in Havana.
