La película de Ana (Ana’s Film) by late Cuban filmmaker Daniel Díaz Torres was awarded the Grand Prix at the 35th Caracol Festival organized by the Audiovisual and Radio Division of the Cuban Writers and Artists Association -UNEAC. The full-length feature film also got prizes in the categories of fiction film and photography. The photography award went to renowned photographer Raúl Pérez Ureta.

Other prizes went to Julio Castellanos as editor for his work Paro and to Gloria Rolando as director for Voces Para un Silencio (Voices for Silence). In non-fiction the prize went to Feliz Navidad (Merry Christmas) by Carlos Manuel Rodríguez, while the animated movie La luna en el jardín (The Moon in the Garden), by Yemelí Cruz and Adanoe Lima, took the award home.

Starring awarded Cuban actress, Laura de la Uz, La película de Ana was the great winner at the 34th International Latin American Film Festival held in Havana in 2012.  The movie is a comedy and drama based on true events, dealing with prostitution, having to do things you don’t believe in, don’t want or like to do in exchange for benefits. It’s the story of an actress forced by circumstances to pretend and play a character-mask that enables her to express very authentic feelings and the truth.
