The Laura Alonso Ballet Company of the Havana based Prodanza Center received a standing ovation with Swan Lake in the prosperous southern Chinese city of Shenzhen.

With this production of Swan Lake, principal ballet dancers, Patricia Hernández and Alejandro Izquierdo, charmed the audience who packed the Shenzhen Center’s Wenti Hall located in Nanshan district. The company’s first tour of China, which includes 45 performances in 16 cities, began in Shanghai on December 19 and has taken the troupe to stages in Ningbo, Xuzhou, Jinan, Suzhou, Shandong, Nanjing, Xiamen and Shenzhen. The next shows will be in Guangzhou, capital of the southeastern province of Guangdong.

Company Director, Laura Alonso, says that her take on Swan Lake is a more than two-hour production with which she is honoring her parents, Alicia and Fernando Alonso, founding fathers of the famous Cuban Ballet School and the Cuban National Ballet Company. The tour is set to wind up in Beijing in February.
