Havana, July 19 (RHC) - The Cuban men's volleyball team lost in five sets to France, Olympic champions and second in the world rankings, during the third week of the Nations League.
Just hours after beating Poland, the world's number one team, the Caribbean island's team put up a strong fight against the French, before losing 25-20, 15-25, 25-23, 21-25, and 9-15.
France dominated in attack (61-46), service (11-7), and committed fewer errors (29-32), while the Caribbean team showed better blocking (10-7), according to official game statistics.
With this result, the Europeans now have seven wins and three losses and are among the top eight teams in the tournament.
Despite the loss, the Cuban team, with a record of 6-5, still has a chance to join the select group that advances beyond the preliminary phase.
Brazil leads the standings with a 9-1 record, followed by Italy (8-2), Poland and France (7-3), and Japan (7-4).
