
Mariafélix Sarría
Havana, July 19 (RHC) - Two gold medals, one silver, and a pair of continental records were celebrated today by Cuban Marifélix Sarría in the +86 kg division of the 2025 Pan American Weightlifting Championships in Cali.
The athlete from Cienfuegos performed flawlessly on the platform at the Miguel Calero Coliseum in the Colombian city, succeeding in all of her attempts.
First, she lifted 112, 116, and 118 kilos in the snatch, earning the silver medal. The gold went to Dominican Crismery Santana (119 kg) and the bronze to American Mary Theinsen-Lappen (117 kg).
In the clean and jerk, Sarria lifted 154, 157, and 162 kilograms to win the title. That last figure went down in history as a Pan American record.
The podium was completed by Theinsen-Lappen (161 kg) from the United States and Taiane Justino (151 kg) from Brazil.
The Cuban athlete's performance also earned her the title in the biathlon, with a total of 280 kg, which was another record for the continent.
Behind her were the representative from the United States (278 kg) and Naryury Pérez from Venezuela (265 kg).
Sarría also surpassed her personal bests. In the snatch, she increased her mark by three kilograms, in the clean and jerk she added five kilograms, and in the biathlon she added eight.
The results achieved by Mariafelix set new records for the country in this weight category for women.
The international calendar for this sport will continue with the World Championships, to be held from October 1 to 10 in Norway.
