Las Tunas, September 24 (RHC)-- Cuba's Communist Party Politburo member Salvador Valdés Mesa urged workers at Antonio Guiteras sugar mill to work hard and achieve success.

In a visit to the sugar mill that was the largest sugar producer in Cuba for many years, the vice president of the Council of State reiterated the need to take a hard line on the accomplishment of duty and technological discipline. Workers must focus on this phase to tackle any visible sign of inconvenience which could affect the industry, according to a report in this morning's edition of Granma newspaper.

Fernando Cano, director of the sugar facility, explained the mill was the last to stop its machinery in 2013-2014 harvest and as a result, the management had to take measures to accelerate repairs so the factory can start working again on December 4th as planned. The disassembling, cleaning and maintenance are included in the repairs with 12 hours shifts as 191 workers donated part of their vacations to get the mill ready.

Antonio Guiteras sugar factory is programed to produce 50 percent of the sugar planned in the territory. This mill set a record of 218,000 tons of sugar in 1983 harvest as one of its main achievements.

Valdés Mesa also visited Antonio Guiteras's sugar cane supplier 'La Pedrera' Cooperative Production Basic Unit and learned this unit has produced over 70 tons of sugar cane per hectare in drying. This must not be an exception but a rule for the entire province which has not exceeded 40 tons of sugar cane average, the Cuban official stated.
