Colombian President Hopes Peace Reigns in his Country in 2014

Bogota, December 31 (RHC)-- Colombian president Juan Manuel Santos said on Tuesday that ongoing talks in Havana between his government and the guerrilla force will lead to the end of the over-50-year armed conflict in his country next year.

In a new year's message to the nation, Santos said that 2014 will be an electoral period to elect a new Congress and a president for the 2014-2018 term and it will also be the year that hopefully will bring peace and the end of the armed conflict.

The Colombian government and the Revolutionary Armed Forces FARC kicked off peace talks 13 months ago to find a solution to the armed conflict. The negotiations continue to take place in Havana.
