Ramallah, May 15 (RHC)-- International solidarity was demonstrated on Friday, May 15th -- the 72nd anniversary of Nabka Day or the Day of Catastrophe.

During the 1948 Palestine War, an estimated 700,000 Palestinians fled or were expelled from their lands, and hundreds of Palestinian towns and villages were depopulated and destroyed -- as the state of Israel was formed over the objections and continued resistance of the Palestinian people.

A nuumber of leaders around the world added their voices to express support for the struggle of the Palestinean people.  Among them was that of Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro, who sent greetings to the people of Palestine through an official communiqué issued by the Foreign Ministry.

In the message, the Venezuelan leader expressed his support for the Palestinian cause and rejected the illegal annexation operations announced by the new Israeli coalition government to establish Jewish settlements in the West Bank and the Jordan Valley.

Nicolas Maduro said: "Now more than ever, Al Nakba is relevant, as is the ongoing struggle of the Palestinian people for respect of their sovereignty, independence and self-determination.

There have also been virtual protests against the Israeli regime, Tweet storms in support of the Palestinian cause and statements issued on Friday.  Resistance groups stressed that the Tel Aviv government cannot deny the Palestinian refugees their right to return to their ancestral lands.

In addition, Palestinian Resistance groups have expressed their rejection to the plans of the U.S. and Israel, including the so-called "Deal of the Century," which seeks to liquidate the Palestinian cause and ignore the rights of the Palestinian people.
