Brasilia, October 16 (RHC) – Former Brazilian president Lula da Silva wished a “full recovery” to Argentinean President Cristina Fernández who underwent surgery last week for a head blood clot. At the same time, Lula highlighted the close relationship between the two countries.
In an interview published in Buenos Aires, Lula da Silva praised the excellent relations between Argentina and Brazil, adding that they could be further strengthened through fiscal agreements, cultural exchanges and production chain and tourism integration.
Regarding the region's situation, the Brazilian political leader said that “despite denials from conservatives,” South America has expanded a lot in the past ten years.
The former Brazilian president underlined that the countries now have democratic regimes, and that income distribution and social inclusion were increasing.
“The region now is much more independent and respected in the world. Mercosur, despite its enemies, still exists and is functioning,” said Lula da Silva, highlighting the creation of UNASUR (Union of South American Nations) and the CELAC (the Community of Latin American and Caribbean Nations) as examples.
