UNES supports a re-count of votes in February 7th election

Quito, February 16 (RHC)-- The political movement Unión por la Esperanza (UNES), whose presidential ticket garnered the highest number of votes in the first round of elections in Ecuador, supports the pending recount of votes in that country.

The UNES emphasized that the process must be transparent and have the participation of all political organizations, not only those involved in the process, as well as international oversight.

The presidential candidate of UNES, Andres Arauz, said that his coalition will participate to "take care of the votes and extend the advantage."  The recount, within the framework of the Constitution and the law, is a legal right.

On her part, the spokesperson of UNES and Assemblywoman at the moment elected for Pichincha, Jhajaira Urresta, expressed that "in the democratic process there should not be a single doubt.  We will always support electoral transparency so that this confirms and ratifies that the popular will be respected.  Our movement and candidates will always be willing to support initiatives that go in the direction of the conformity of the popular will expressed at the ballot box."
