Bogota, February 21 (RHC)-- In Colombia, another three people have been murdered in political violence in the area of La Guajira, near Maicao in the north of the South American country.

Indigenous peoples in the area were alerted of the deaths of three men, including a foreigner, in the Wayuu indigenous community of Ceura, in a rural area of the municipality of Maicao (1,000 km north of Bogota, on the border with Venezuela), which apparently are related to a land conflict and have led to several massacres in the area.

The identity of the dead has not yet been released by the authorities.  However, it was established that they are two indigenous Wayuu who live in the area and a citizen of Venezuelan origin, who was doing masonry work.

The incident occurred on Saturday afternoon in the cemetery of the community located at kilometer 47 of the road that leads from Riohacha to Maicao, when they were building a vault.  Several people armed with rifles arrived on the scene and fired indiscriminately.

The indigenous people ask for the help of the authorities to support their relatives for their transfer to Venezuela, since they do not have the resources to do so.
