Argentinean government evaluates new restrictions

Buenos Aires, April 7 (RHC)-- The Minister of Health of Argentina, Carla Vizzotti, reports that the health team is evaluating the implementation of new social restrictions due to the increase of Covid-19 infections recorded in recent days.

During a press conference, the minister emphasized that the next three weeks are key and therefore, in the framework of the second wave of the pandemic, new measures to protect the population are a fact, as well as a greater deployment in the application of vaccines.

"Argentina has the advantage of having sustained vaccination before cases start to increase.  While this does not solve the problem, it is encouraging in relation to what it means to have a very high rate of vaccinated health personnel," said Vizzotti.

The Argentinean Minister of Health recalled that so far more than 90 percent of the country's healthcare personnel have received at least the first dose of immunization.  "Argentina's healthcare system has been strengthened since the pandemic began," she added.

Vizzotti's statement comes after a record 20,870 new confirmed cases and another 163 deaths due to COVID-19 were reported on Tuesday, bringing the total number of deaths in the South American nation to 56,634 and 2 million 428,029 contagions since the arrival of the virus.
