Asuncion, April 27 (RHC)-- Paraguay reported on Monday the highest number of deaths due to coronavirus since the beginning of the pandemic, with more than 100 deaths in 24 hours.  The Paraguayan Ministry of Health registered 102 deaths due to COVID-19, bringing the number of deaths to 6,002.

Regarding the number of infections, the Paraguayan agency confirmed 2,271 new cases, bringing the country's total number of infected persons to 269,353 since March 2020.  The health authorities of the South American country linked the increase in the number of infections and deaths to the presence of the Brazilian variant a few months ago.

In an attempt to address the situation due to the increase of the coronavirus, the Government once again decreed restrictive measures until May 10.  Faced with the collapse of the health system, President Mario Abdo Benítez passed a law on Monday to use funds from the Itaipú and Yacyretá hydroelectric plants for the purchase of medical materials and supplies
