Mexico City, December 4 (RHC)-- The president of Mexico, Andrés Manuel López Obrador, has expressed his appreciation to China for its collaboration in the fight against COVID-19, by sending vaccines to Mexico in order to combat the pandemic.

In the framework of the III Ministerial Meeting of the Forum of the Community of Latin American and Caribbean States (CELAC) - China, the Mexican head of state sent a video to convey his message to the Chinese people and government presided by Xi Jinping.

The meeting was propitious to "outline the priorities of the region with respect to international cooperation with China," according to a communiqué from the Mexican Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

Likewise, the Chinese president sent a video with a message to the participants of the meeting, in which he highlighted the importance of cooperation in the current situation.

For his part, the Foreign Minister of Mexico, Marcelo Ebrard, said that "the Community is getting stronger to face the challenges of our time, 32 nations building solutions together."

Direct cooperation between health institutions at the governmental, regional and local levels is contained in a joint action plan published in 2018 by China and CELAC.

Since the beginning of the pandemic, China has pledged to provide more than 10 million doses of vaccines to meet the urgent needs of countries in the Latin American region.

The III Ministerial Meeting of the CELAC - China Forum, chaired by the State Councilor and Minister of Foreign Affairs of China, Wang Yi, and Foreign Minister Ebrard, was held through a virtual platform with the participation of officials from member states of the organization.
