Washington, October 10 (RHC)-- U.S. intelligence officials admit the U.S. bombing campaign in Syria only killed one or two key terrorists while dozens of civilians were killed in the strikes. The unnamed officials said the attacks were not successful to cripple the Khorasan terrorist group, the Associated Press reported on Thursday.

"The strikes were certainly effective in setting back the Khorasan group, but no one thinks they were a permanent solution or a death blow to the threats that come from this cell," said Rep. Adam Schiff, a member of the U.S. House Intelligence Committee.

The U.S. military fired 46 cruise missiles at eight locations to target the Khorasan group last month, while the United States struck ISIL targets in Syria. Witnesses said one missile killed a dozen of civilians in the village of Kfar Derian. Mohammed Abu Omar, an activist in the northern province of Idlib, was among the dead.

Meanwhile, U.S. warplanes killed at least 22 civilians and injured 43 others during an airstrike in Iraq, according to reports. The attack occurred in the city of Hit, recently captured by the ISIL terrorists, in Anbar province.

Since late September, the U.S. and several of its Arab allies -- Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Qatar, Jordan and the United Arab Emirates -- have been conducting airstrikes against ISIL inside Syria without any authorization from Damascus or a UN mandate.
