Bogotá, October 16 (PL-RHC)-- Colombian President Juan Manuel Santos has reiterated his optimism about the possibility of achieving peace within six months, while describing as transcendental the recent agreement on justice with the FARC-EP.

According to the president, if all goes as agreed, on March 23rd next year or before, Colombia will finally say goodbye to the last and longest war in the Western Hemisphere.

There is a timeline for ending the military confrontation, if we achieve that, is because we untie the Gordian knot of the transitional justice, stated the head of state.

Representatives of the government and the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia-People's Army (FARC-EP) reported weeks ago the basics of the Special Jurisdiction for peace, a mechanism by which courts will be constituted to investigate, prosecute and punish those responsible for the war.

Such methodology is governed by the premise of preventing impunity for crimes against humanity. It also includes benefits such as pardons or amnesties for political and related crimes, stated the joint statement released.
