Havana, July 1 (RHC-PL)-- The Foreign Ministers of Cuba and Australia, Bruno Rodríguez and Julie Bishop, signed a Memorandum of Understanding in Havana on Friday providing for the holding of regular diplomatic meetings aimed at boosting bilateral ties and cooperation.

Foreign Minister Bishop said there were opportunities for trade and investment between Cuba and Australia as well as potential businesses in areas like tourism, sports, mining, energy, agriculture, infrastructure and education.

The Australian government positively assesses Cuba's economic reforms, especially its opening to direct foreign investment, added Bishop, who is making her first visit to the Caribbean island.

Cuba and Australia established diplomatic relations in January 1989. The two nations hold common positions on various issues, from climate change to freedom of trade and navigation.
