President Diaz-Canell in central Cienfuegos on Saturday
Havana, July 7 (RHC)-- Just back from a CARICOM summit meeting in Jamaica, Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel started a working visit to the province of Sancti Spíritus on Friday afternoon, a region hard hit by rains and floods in late May. On Saturday, he traveled to Cienfuegos and inspected recovery of an oil spill caused by the floods.

The Cuban president started his tour at the cooperative farm of  Yoandy Rodríguez, a tobacco harvester, where he was briefed on the impact of the rains and the way local farmers have been dealing with the excess of humidity in the tobacco leaves in the drying houses.

This was President Diaz-Canell's first visit to Sancti Spiritus since he took office in April. Vice President Salvador Valdés Mesa has also been touring production and service facilities in the flood-stricken territory.

The Cuban president also visited on Saturday the bay of Cienfugos, in central Cuba, where the floods had caused an oil spill from the nearby refinery .  The president toured the bay and inspected on the ground the recovery work of the bay.
