Havana, April 22 (RHC)-- Cuba is administering plasma from people recovered from COVID-19 to treat seriously ill patients, a therapy that follows the established standards and rigor, it was reported on the prime-time TV and radio program "Mesa Redonda."

Before using that therapy as part of the treatment, experts confirm the complete recovery of the donor and later the plasma is tested to validate that it can be used, the coordinator of the Group of Experts from the Ministry of Public Health (MINSAP), Ricardo Pereda, said on the Mesa Redonda program.

Cuba goes along with the world in the use of protocols to treat people infected with the SARS-Cov-2 coronavirus, which causes COVID-19, "we have taken everything that has proven to be effective from the international protocols," the expert in intensive medicine noted.

Pereda reported that the treatments are adjusted according to each case and stage of the disease, and antiviral drugs, such as chloroquine and Kaletra, steroids and monoclonal antibodies, like CIGB 258, are used.

Regarding antibiotics, the expert noted that although they are not part of the protocol, they are administered after analyzing the situation of each case.
