Cuba's minister of education awarded Professor Emeritus of Universidad de Oriente

Santiago de Cuba, October (RHC)-- "From my heart and conduct I ratify my commitment as a teacher and revolutionary," expressed via the Internet Dr. Ena Elsa Velázquez Coubiella, Minister of Education of the Republic of Cuba, upon receiving the category of Professor Emeritus of the Universidad de Oriente (UO) on the 73rd anniversary of the institution.

She congratulated the members of the prestigious institution of higher studies for the training of thousands of professionals who are able to contribute to the economic and social development of the country, and she emphasized that the center of study of excellence is decisive in the obtaining of scientific and academic degrees by professors and specialists in diverse sectors.

Diana Sedal Yanes, rector of the Alma Mater Oriental, referred to the commitment to maintain the essence of science and awareness of the center with high scientific work, development of Higher Education policies in the continuous and integral formation of the professional, and the constant search for excellence in all processes in support of the progress of a prosperous and sustainable society.

"It was a different year due to the appearance of COVID-19, where we contributed from various branches to prevention, early warning and risk communication to face the pandemic," she said.

New challenges imposed by the 21st century for the UO, which call for a higher quality of the training process in undergraduate and postgraduate, the use of information and communication technologies in all areas, as well as strengthening the link with companies to promote research, she added.

In this context, the career of Journalism received the 70th Anniversary plaque, because during 50 years qualified professionals of the press and communication have been graduating and reporting from several places of the country and the world.

UO has a faculty with high journalistic and scientific production, members of the National Career Commission, the National Accreditation Board and the National Permanent Court of Information and Communication.

It also leads academic and cultural exchange agreements with the Brazilian Universities of Ponta Grossa and Santa Catarina, promotes the Summer School "Media in Transformation," with the University of Victoria, Canada, and impact tasks as social missions in the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela.

The condition of certificate was also given to the careers of Bachelor in Sociology and Accounting and Finance, to the Master in Sports Pedagogy and Physical Culture and in Biomedical Engineering, by the National Board of Accreditation.

Likewise, they granted the category of Excellence to the Masters in Community Cultural Development, Civil Engineering in Seismic Zones, Electrical Engineering, Postgraduate Specialization in Criminal Law and the Doctorate in Education Sciences.

During the ceremony, the Temporary Working Group, responsible for ensuring the political, logistical and organizational preparations for the commemoration of the 75th anniversary of the Universidad de Oriente in 2022, was presented.
