Cuba and Russia agree on a comprehensive project for railway development

Havana, December 3 (RHC)-- Representatives from Cuba and Russia agreed on implementing the comprehensive project for the supply of locomotives, modernization of repair centers, and the continuity of the supply of Russian technologies and equipment.

During the 12th Session of the Working Group for Collaboration in the Field of Transport of the Russian-Cuban Intergovernmental Commission, which met virtually, the implementation of the project by the Sinara-Transport Machinery Group, specialized in the construction of locomotives, diesel engines and railroad construction machinery, and their maintenance, was highlighted.

On the Cuban side, the Union of Cuban Railways and its importer Tradex took part.

The Director of International Relations of the Ministry of Transport, Ivette Caballero, said that in the meeting, Cuba proposed creating international economic associations for the transport of goods and passengers by rail to and from the Special Zone of Mariel Development.

It was also agreed that the island would carry out a feasibility study on the prioritized projects to develop the ports. At the same time, the certification of the Russian institutions involved in the repair of parts and aggregates of aircraft operated by Cubana de Aviación will be examined.

The meeting was chaired by Naima Alfonso, Cuban Deputy Minister of Transport, and Dmitry Zvierev, Secretary of State and Deputy Minister of Transport of the Russian Federation.
