Havana, Sep 28 (RHC) The First Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba and president of the Republic, Miguel Díaz-Canel insisted on the importance of conceptualizing innovation processes in the biotechnological and pharmaceutical area for their analysis and implementation in the rest of the country's business sector.

During a recent meeting of the National Innovation Council (CNI), held at the Palace of the Revolution in Havana, the president recognized the Biotechnology and Pharmaceutical Industries Group (BioCubaFarma) as the most successful experience in this field.

The Head of State also indicated to record the good practices of that sector, so that this methodology can be studied and applied in the rest of the companies.

For his part, the president of BioCubaFarma, Eduardo Martínez recalled the imprint of the historic leader of the Revolution Fidel Castro (1926-2016) in the progress of that area and highlighted, among other results, the innovation in the face of the health emergency imposed by the pandemic caused by the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus.

"This allowed them to have a Covid-19 portfolio comprising 27 products, 18 authorized for emergency use and nine under development," he said.

Scientist Agustín Lage Dávila considered that the Group has such achievements as a result of the exceptionality of its scientists, also because they received substantial resources and due to their innovation in the organizational area.

During the videoconference session with other provinces attended by Prime Minister Manuel Marrero Cruz and several portfolio holders and members of the Council, they all paid tribute to the recently deceased Doctor of Science, José Luis García Cuevas.

The CNI, created by Agreement number 156/2021 of the Council of State, is a consultative body that assists the President of the Republic.

Its objective is to recommend decisions to promote innovation in the functioning of the Government, the economy and society, so that it contributes to the fulfillment of the national development plan. (Source: PL)
