Diaz-Canel receives visiting Russian Vice-President Yuri Ivanovich Borisov

Havana, October 13 (RHC)—Cuban President  Miguel Diaz-Canel Bermúdez, received on Tuesday the Vice-President of the Government of the Russian Federation and co-chairman of the Russian-Cuban Intergovernmental Commission for Economic-Commercial and Scientific-Technical Collaboration, H.E. Mr. Yuri Ivanovich Borisov, who is visiting the island as a special envoy of the President of the Russian Federation, Vladimir Putin.

During the meeting, the excellent state of relations between the two countries was noted. The parties discussed economic, commercial, financial and cooperation ties and the prospects for their development.

On behalf of the Cuban people and government, President Díaz-Canel thanked the aid sent by the Russian Federation to Cuba for the confrontation with the COVID-19 and conveyed a cordial greeting to his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin.

Also on Tuesday, the Russian official met with Cuban Deputy Prime Minister Ricardo Cabrisas, his counterpart in the Cuba-Russia Intergovernmental Commission.

During the encounter, Borisov assured that Moscow will continue its assistance to Cuba as a strategic partner, and his country will send more humanitarian aid to the island before the end of the year.

He stressed that despite the difficult situation caused by the Covid-19 pandemic and the tightening of the economic, commercial, and financial blockade imposed by the United States on Cuba, the strategic partnership between the two nations remains an unwavering priority for the Russian government.
