Ana Mari Machado, the Deputy Chair of the parliament, reads the Declaration.

Havana, October 27 (RHC)—On the opening of the ordinary session of the Cuban National Parliament on Wednesday, lawmakers approved a declaration expressing that legislative body position on current events on the island. The statement text was read by Ana Mari Machado, the Deputy Chair of the parliament. The full declaration follows:

Statement by the National Assembly of People Power

October 27, 2021

On the 45th anniversary of the creation of the organs of the people's power, the National Assembly reaffirms to the parliaments, parliamentary friendship groups, legislators of all continents, to our friends in the world, that socialist Cuba advances and is revived by the effort, resistance, intelligence and firmness of its united people, proud of its achievements, firm in its convictions and determined to defend the socialist state of rights and independent and sovereign democratic social justice that it has freely chosen.

The National Assembly of People's Power, on behalf of the people we represent:

Denounces that the government of the United States continues to develop its strategy of unconventional war against our country, which includes, among other aggressions, the imposition of a hostile policy aimed at strangling the national economy, the redoubled and permanent subversion, the creation and promotion of political communication campaigns such as the use of social networks to try to provoke destabilization, appear ungovernable, promote chaos and impose a change of system.

The U.S. administration organizes, instigates, facilitates, finances, encourages, and tolerates aggressions or terrorist activities against Cuba from its territory. In this sense, provocations are carried out by unscrupulous individuals and groups, encouraged and supported by some congressmen and other authorities of that country who use radio and television stations and social networks to call for unconstitutional demonstrations, acts of vandalism, sabotage, and other criminal actions, including assassinations to overthrow the Cuban government by any means, including calls for direct military intervention by the United States of America in Cuba.

Supports the decision of the revolutionary government to confront and impede, in the exercise of sovereignty and the law, the aggression of U.S. imperialism that seeks to undermine our independence and destroy the constitutional order, the Revolution, and socialism in Cuba.

Condemns the economic, commercial, and financial blockade imposed by the United States of America against Cuba, which has extended for more than 60 years, qualifies as an act of genocide, constitutes a transgression of international law, is a flagrant and systematic violation of the human rights of all the Cuban people and has been condemned by the international community in 29 successive resolutions of the General Assembly of the United Nations.

Denounces the actions of the government of the United States of America in deliberately and opportunistically tightening the economic, commercial, and financial blockade in the context of the global pandemic of Covid-19, assuming it as an ally in its attempt to destroy the Revolution.

Rejects the fact that the 243 coercive measures imposed since the previous government of the United States of America, including the incorporation of Cuba in the spurious, illegal, unilateral list of countries that allegedly sponsor terrorism, are still in force by the current administration of President Biden.

Warns that the hegemonic mega-corporations of disinformation are trying to show the world a reality that does not exist in Cuba, and to that end, with true cynicism, they endorse false news, manipulate images, lie about supposedly persecuted, tortured and disappeared people who only existed before the triumph of the Revolution, when a bloody dictatorship at the service of U.S. imperialism reigned in Cuba. With the same purpose, they intend to expand the channels of subversion and carry out cybernetic attacks on the basic infrastructures of the country.

Categorically rejects the pronouncements against Cuba made by the Senate and the House of Representatives of the United States of America and their attempts to promote new legislative instruments to further tighten the genocidal blockade as well as the declarations of the anti-Cuban groups that have hijacked the foreign policy of that country towards Cuba, and clamor for military intervention.

Demands that the United States of America government cease the blockade, the aggression, and interference in internal affairs, the violation of the human rights of our people, and that it abides by the principles of international law for relations between sovereign states.

In this regard, it recalls that most Americans support the lifting of the blockade and their freedom to travel to Cuba and that Cubans living in this country desire normal relations and well-being for their families.

Strongly rejects the resolutions adopted against Cuba by the European Parliament due to their interfering, neocolonial and offensive nature, promoted by a small group of its members, with known extremist positions and lacking moral authority. They seek to hinder and halt progress in implementing the political dialogue and cooperation agreement with the European Union, actions in line with Washington's anti-Cuban agenda.

Thanks the MEPs who have worthily raised their voices in this scenario, denouncing the double standards of those who lie about Cuba and defame our political system and who, by keeping silent about real violations of human rights in Latin America, Europe, and other regions, discredit the European Parliament.

Expresses its sincere and permanent gratitude to the broad and diverse movement of solidarity with the Cuban Revolution, which reaches all corners of the planet, in particular to the associations and parliamentary groups of friendship with Cuba, and to the associations of Cubans whose actions accompany our people in this battle for its independence and encourage us to continue working.

Reaffirms the commitment to defend and continue perfecting our model of socialist democracy, based on the exercise of power by the people and for the people, power exercised directly or through the assemblies of popular power or the bodies derived from it, where each citizen can nominate and elect freely and revoke and control if necessary. No one is above the law and the rest of his compatriots.

Ratifies the firm determination to be faithful to the convictions expressed by our Commander in Chief when he proclaimed:

"Revolution is to defend values in which we are faithful to the values of our countrymen and women.

Revolution is to defend values in which one believes at the price of any sacrifice. Revolution is modesty, selflessness, altruism, solidarity and heroism.

It is the profound conviction that there is no force in the world capable of crushing the power of truth and ideas.

It is unity. It is independence. It is fighting for our dreams of justice for Cuba and the world, which is the basis of our patriotism, our socialism, and our internationalism.

National Assembly of People's Power, Havana, October 27, 2021, Year 63 of the Revolution.
