Havana, December 16 (RHC)-- The first secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Cuba (CC-PCC), Miguel Díaz-Canel, affirmed Thursday at the 3rd plenary Session of the organization that despite the adverse economic situation the island faces,   this has been a year of victories for the country.

In an address to the event,  he stated that Cuba could dismantle an intense and profound operation against the Revolution.

"They wanted us to disappear, and we survived," he said, and considered that this has been a period of resistance and creation, and urged to work and move forward with our efforts, knowing that the U.S.blockade will be maintained.

Díaz-Canel acknowledged that in this stage, the unity of the Cuban people around the Government and the Party has been strengthened, and said that "in these difficult times we have acted firmly; without allowing ourselves to be subjugated or humiliated, we have resisted all the attacks creatively," he said.

He highlighted the country's efforts to return to normality after controlling the COVID-19 pandemic, with a balance to date of 963,885 confirmed cases, 8,313 deaths, and 955,199 recovered, a figure equivalent to 99.1 percent of the contagions.

The first secretary of the CC-PCC pointed to the recent resumption of the school year, the opening of borders last November 15, the holding of the Havana Biennial, the unstoppable legislative exercise, the recovery of the economy, and the deployment of new economic actors.

He added that despite the limitations of the U.S. blockade, Cuba created its vaccine candidates to fight the pandemic, and three of them are already vaccines (Soberana 02, Soberana Plus, and Abdala.)

The 3rd  Plenary Session of the CC-PCC is concluding this Friday at Havana's Convention Center.

One of its main objectives is to evaluate the fulfillment of the agreements derived from the 2nd Plenum through the information offered by the Political Bureau on the work carried out to date.
