U.S. Coast Guard returns 139 irregular migrants to Cuba

Havana, June 4 (RHC) The U.S. Coast Guard returned 139 migrants to Cuba in compliance with the agreements between the two countries, on this occasion, the maritime return operation was divided into two stages, local press reported.

According to a national television report, 40 migrants were returned on Friday, including 8 women and 32 men. On the previous day, 99, of which 2 were minors.

All return operations took place through the Orozco port in Artemisa province, and they were carried out following internationally established sanitary protocols.

The travelers intercepted on the high seas while attempting to arrive illegally in the United States are from Havana, Artemisa, Matanzas, Villa Clara, and Granma provinces.

With this group, 627 people have been returned from May to date from the northern nation.

The television report noted that the United States was the country that has returned the most irregular Cuban migrants to the island in 2022, with 1,473 travelers.
