Havana, July 10 (RHC)-- With the sad news of the assassination of former Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe, following an attack during an electoral speech in his country, the president of the Republic of Cuba decreed an Official Mourning from 6:00 a.m. to 12 midnight on Monday, July 11, 2022.

Abe was the first Japanese head of government to visit Cuba, in 2016, at which time he held fruitful talks with Army General Raul Castro Ruz.

He always maintained a position of respect and consideration towards our country.  During his term of office, the relations of friendship and cooperation between our nations were strengthened.

During the period of Official Mourning, the Cuban flag shall be flown at half-mast in public buildings and military institutions.
