Cairo, July 24 (PL-RHC) -- Cuban President Raul Castro congratulated his Egyptian counterpart, Abdel Fattah Sisi, on the 62nd anniversary of the revolution of July 23, 1952, a source at the Cuban embassy said today.

Gamal Abdel Nasser, one of the fathers of the Non-Aligned Movement, of which Cuba is a founding member, led a revolution by young officers that ousted the monarchy of King Farouk and led his country to the forefront of regional politics.

The leader of the Cuban Revolution, Fidel Castro, met Nasser when at the meetings of the UN General Assembly in New York, and Commander Ernesto Che Guevara met with Nasser in Cairo during a tour of Africa.

The Cuban president also sent congratulations to Sisi in early June on the occasion of his inauguration as president of the Arab Republic of Egypt.

Cuban Foreign Minister Bruno Rodriguez sent a letter to his Egyptian counterpart, Samih Shukry, on the occasion that ratifies the will to continue strengthening the bonds of friendship between the two countries, according to the source.
