Buenos Aires, Oct 25 (RHC) Cuban Minister of Foreign Trade and Investment Rodrigo Malmierca stressed Tuesday in Argentina the need for a superior model of international cooperation that allows for a better response to the multidimensional nature of sustainable development.

During his speech at the 39th session of the Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC), Malmierca advocated the search for joint solutions to the current critical situation, marked by the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic, the conflict in Ukraine and the effects of climate change.

No country can survive in isolation. Working together is essential for the implementation of the United Nations (UN) 2030 Agenda. A better understanding of the development challenges and needs of each nation is also essential, he said.

He also urged the design of inclusive and transparent actions that respect the particularities of each State.

Malmierca supported the initiative of UN Secretary-General António Guterres to formulate a multidimensional vulnerability index and stressed the relevance of promoting and strengthening dialogue.

In addition, he assured that ECLAC has a major role in promoting integration schemes that allow the application of common approaches to shared problems and better conditions for economic growth, social inclusion, and political positioning of the region.

Cuba defends that each country has something relevant to contribute to the international community, regardless of their levels of development, he said.

On the other hand, he denounced the damage caused to Cuba by the economic, commercial, and financial blockade imposed by the United States for more than 60 years and intensified during the pandemic. (Source: PL)
