President Díaz-Canel evokes the founding of Latin American School of Medicine

Havana, November 15 (RHC)-- Cuban President Miguel Díaz-Canel on Tuesday congratulated students and workers of the Latin American School of Medicine (Elam) on the 23rd anniversary of that institution.

In a message on Twitter, the president sent a strong embrace to the students, professors and graduates who, as the historic leader of the Cuban Revolution, Fidel Castro, said, are doctors willing to work wherever they are needed, in the most remote corners of the world, where other doctors do not go.

Elam was founded by Fidel Castro with the purpose of training health personnel from other nations so that once they graduate, they can provide their services in developing territories.

To date, the institution has trained more than 30,000 students from 120 countries, among them young Americans from poor or discriminated communities, who practice their profession in those places.

The Elam project is part of the Integral Health Program with which the Caribbean nation extends medical collaboration in solidarity to various countries around the world.
