Latin American Medicine Day

Havana, Dec 3 (RHC) Cuba is celebrating today the Day of Latin American Medicine with successes in the fight against Covid-19 in its immunization campaign with nationally produced vaccines and helping other peoples.

The country's top management described extraordinary the work of doctors, nurses, laboratorians, and technicians from all the nation's healthcare centers during the most complex moments of the pandemic.

One of the great successes is the vaccination campaign, in which more than 42 million 540 thousand 700 doses have already been administered to the population.

According to Ministry of Public Health statistics, the incidence rate of the disease has decreased significantly in all provinces, as well as the number of serious and critical patients, pediatric cases, and deaths.

This favorable epidemiological result is the result of the creation and production of the Cuban immunogens Soberana 02, Soberana Plus, and Abdala.

According to the Ministry of Public Health, 90.3 percent of the Cuban population is fully vaccinated, while more than 8 million 655 thousand 35 people have booster doses.

According to data from the National Statistics and Information Office, at the end of March this year, the Cuban population was 11 million 105,814 inhabitants.

The Caribbean nation is also celebrating Latin American Medicine Day by contributing with healthcare assistance to the Mexican people.

At this week's farewell to the 55 doctors, the First Deputy Minister of the Ministry of Public Health, Ana Margarita Cruz, pointed out that in these 59 years of cooperation abroad, the professionals achieved relevant results.

This is reflected in the satisfaction of the patients treated, in the favorable transformation of health indicators, and in the lives they saved, as a sign of the humanism and altruism that characterize the professionals trained by the Cuban Revolution.

Latin American Medicine Day is celebrated every December 3, the day on which the birthday of the Cuban sage Dr. Carlos J. Finlay is commemorated. Health Workers' Day is also celebrated in the Caribbean nation.

Finlay discovered and described the importance of the biological vector through the vector-borne theory of disease transmission by biological agents, applying it to yellow fever transmitted by the Aedes aegypti mosquito. (Source: PL)
